Anodising Parameter Calculator

Estimate suggested current density, total current and anodising time for sulphuric anodising on aluminium. Select process type, alloy series, coating thickness and exposed area. The tool applies a simple, transparent model to give planning values – you still own the process window and specification compliance.

The calculator uses a simplified linear growth model. Outputs are for guidance only and should be validated against your qualified process and customer requirements.
Step 1
Process & Part Inputs
Define the anodising process, alloy, thickness and area.
Process type *
Type II typically ~5–25 µm; Type III typically ~25–75 µm depending on spec.
Alloy family *
Used only as a weighting factor for growth efficiency – it does not replace metallurgical judgement.
Target coating thickness *
Enter external thickness in µm. Typical: 5–25 µm (Type II), 25–75 µm (Type III).
Total exposed area *
Area in dm². 1 dm² = 100 cm² = 0.01 m². For example, 0.1 m² ≈ 10 dm².
Bath temperature *
Type II planning: ~18–22 °C. Type III hardcoat planning: typically 0–5 °C (chilled).
